A young woman bent on killing the men who murdered her father develops a special relationship with the gunslinger she hires to teach her how to shoot.

In his youth, Clint Reynolds hanged out with a ruthless gang that committed numerous robberies along with a few murders. With his wife expecting their first child, Clint decided it was time to get out, only the leader, a ruthless Levi, didn’t allow descent. During a bank robbery, Clint snuck off with a portion of the loot and ran away with his wife to start a new life.

17 years later, Clint is a doting father to his daughter Lizzie. Her mom died a few years earlier, leaving Clint to raise her alone. Lizzie is very inquisitive about Clints past. He opens up about it some to prove he is a changed man but finally tells her to stop asking questions. Lizzie is in love with their only neighbor’s son, Will, with wedding bells in their future.

Lizzie accompanies Clint into town. While she shops for a birthday present for her pa, Clint picks up some grains. Levi suddenly makes an appearance, revenge in his heart. With the help of his gang, they escort Clint to the gallows and prepare to hang him.

After buying a pocket watch as a gift, Lizzie sees the commotion up the street and curiously joins the crowd. She sees her father ready to hang. The many onlookers just stand back to watch. Lizzie pleads with Levi not to hurt Clint. When that fails, she grabs a bystander’s gun and shoots the man at the lever. In return, Levi shoots her in the shoulder just before he rushes to pull the lever himself. Clint dies instantly, right before Lizzie’s eyes as she loses consciousness.

Lizzie awakens at her neighbor’s house, being tended to by Will and his parents. When she recovers enough to leave, she goes to her house, where she finds the money Clint stole from Levi hidden away with a note for her to use it well. Knowing Levi and his men will come looking for the loot, Lizzie leaves for the city, where she tries to track down Garrett Holbrook, an ex-member of Levi’s gang and Clint’s good friend at the time. Garrett lays low as a blacksmith, with a wife and son. Lizzie’s appearance rattles him. She insists that he teach her how to be a great gunslinger like he is. Garrett finds the notion ridiculous but money talks.

Garrett and Lizzie spend months together at a remote shack where he teaches her the best he can to be great with different guns. He advises against her confronting Levi, but she insists she has no choice. They will kill her one way or another. When Lizzie goes after the gang, she has some success but finds herself in grave trouble. Garrett comes to her rescue. After Garrett is wounded, Lizzie is left in a fight for her life. Her thirst for revenge wins out. After taking Garrett home for needed medical care, she confronts Will about what she has done. They decide none of that matters because their love conquers all.
