The restless spirit of a young woman brutally murdered years ago threatens a group of teens on a weekend campout, forcing one member into stopping the destruction before she becomes the next casualty. 

Local legend has it that Tara, a teen girl, was brutally murdered in the woods and her spirit lives on, wishing to harm anyone who enters her territory. Regina and Scott pick up their friends, Jill and Kevin, and Stephanie and Dan to go on a weekend camping trip in Tara Woods to see if the legend is really true. The friends laugh at the tale but also find themselves excited that there could even be a little truth to the stories.

On their way, they are pulled over by a police officer. He lets them go with a warning but as soon as they drive off, the wind picks up drastically and the officer is brutally murdered. His car rolls down an embankment where it will be difficult to find.

The group stops at Lenny’s, the only gas station in the remote area. There they meet Bart, the current owner. Bart is a creepy older man who gives the teens bad vibes. In a hurry to get away from him as quickly as possible, the group moves on to their camping spot and sets up for the night. After turning in to sleep, a mysterious wind storm disrupts them and nearly destroys their tents. They sleep in their van until morning when they can locate their tents and set them up again.

The group encounters a maimed animal they believe to be Jill’s dog Fifi, although Jill refuses to accept it. She continues looking for her throughout the day, While gathering firewood alone, the strong wind returns and topples over a tree on top of Kevin. He dies from his injuries. His friends don’t really worry until that night. In the morning, they start a search, Stephanie and Dan come across his body but realize there’s nothing they can do. The others arrive and try to calm Jill when she panics.

The wind overturns the van so they can’t escape that way. Stephanie and Dan set off on foot to search for help but find themselves walking in mysterious circles. They return to camp for the night. Dan goes off to gather firewood and is killed by a stick through his neck when the breeze returns. Stephanie finds him and is ready to give up. Scott and Regina take off walking this time. They come across the little store and something unusual. Regina sees a flashback of Tara, a beautiful teen out for a walk with her boyfriend when a group of boys from their school attacks them. Brian succumbs to a brutal beating. Tara attempts to escape and dies a tragic death. The wind murders their assailants.

Jill is the next to die by Tara’s hands, followed by Stephanie. Regina and Scott take off again to find help. They come across a shack in the woods where Tara’s remains lie on a table, surrounded by witchcraft items. Bart, Tara’s father, has used black magic to keep her spirit alive. When Bart attempts to bury Scott alive, Regina pleads with Tara to stop her father because she feels for Scott what Tara had for Brian. Tara turns her wrath on Bart and saves the teens before she disappears forever.
