The Central Heist

Logline

A bumbling detective finds herself in the middle of a bank robbery where she’s the only hope the many hostages have to survive.

Synopsis

Jamie Wells has only recently become a detective. While her heart is in the task at hand, things don't usually work out for her as planned. Her luck is atrocious. Things always seem to work against her. While tailing a suspect, he gets the best of her, leading to razzing from fellow officers.

Little does she know that Sims is part of a gang planning a bank heist. She just happens to be at the bank applying for a car loan when the men, led by a heartless Leighton, arrive. Sims spots Jamie and warns his companions that besides an armed bank guard, there is also a detective present who is likely armed. The men spread out to take strategic advantage points and start the robbery. Before they even realize what is happening, the guard is shot, and Jamie takes a bullet to the shoulder, incapacitating her. The thieves load up on loot from the vault

Just as they prepare to flee, the police arrive, led by Jamie’s fellow detective, Tim. The situation is bad enough until Tim learns not only is Jamie inside, she is wounded. He manages to get a hostage released in good faith, but his efforts to get help for Jamie fail. He offers himself in her place. Leighton agrees he can come in to tend to her injury. That’s all. He finds Jamie defeated, both physically and mentally. After stopping the bleeding, he gets her to eat a little before she passes out. While he wants to stay with her, Leighton forces him to leave.

Outside the bank, Tim works with the negotiation team to get the thieves a van. While this takes time, Jamie awakens and thinks through the situation after a hostage is killed. She may be their only hope. A plan brews. With her limited resources, she is forced to use ingenuity to get Sims alone in the restroom, where she takes him out and steals his gun. A couple more of Leighton’s men disappear, causing Leighton to become enraged. He is able to get control of the situation and takes Jamie as his hostage when the group flees to the van waiting out back.

A sharpshooter waits for the right moment that doesn’t come. The van, tracking device attached, flees. Tim and his partner follow but lose their location when the thieves steal a different vehicle. Leighton and his men lay low at a remote cabin where Jamie continues to be held prisoner.

In the morning, Leighton decides it’s time to eliminate their hostage. Jamie tries to stall, knowing Tim is probably hot on her trail so she just needs a little more time. Leighton is adamant, however, and takes her out back, ready to shoot her. Tim and his partner Bob arrive just in time. Just when it looks like Leighton is done, he prepares to shoot an unknowing Tim. Jamie retrieves a dropped weapon and shoots him first before she passes out. After her recovery, Jamie is awarded the Medal of Honor for her assistance in saving hostage lives.
