The House On Blood River

Logline

A fun day of canoeing goes awry for six teens when they become lost and encounter two demented brothers looking for female companionship.

Synopsis

Two teen couples, Jamie and Steve, and Carly and Mark, set off for a fun time on the river, even though Carly is more of an indoor girl and can’t swim. They rent two canoes and are about to depart when they run into another couple from school who are considered geeks, Marvin and Chelsea. They invite themselves along so the group of four becomes one of six.

The teens have a great time of swimming and drinking, except for Carly. Still mad that she was forced to come along, she attempts to ruin the fun. When the group stops at a rope swing, Carly can’t just sit by and watch. She wears her life vest and joins in. Canoeing may not be so bad after all. The boys tell a story about why the river is known as “Blood River”. Several canoers have gone missing over the past couple of decades. The girls don’t want to believe the story, but it casts fear in their mind.

Mark stands in his canoe to pee and accidentally flips it. Not wearing her life vest at the time, Carly drowns. If it weren’t for Marvin performing CPR to revive her, the trip would have ended in tragedy. Carly’s friends want to get out on the second exit point instead of the third so they can take her to a doctor. Feeling better now and starting to unwind, Carly insists they go on to the end.

The teens don’t realize they are being watched by Sam, a skilled and demented hunter type. At the final exit point after the previous bus leaves, Sam hides the sign so the teens won’t see it. The boys believe that is still the right place but without a sign, they can’t be sure and it’s starting to get dark. They decide to drift around the bend, certain the correct spot will be there. It isn’t, so they get off the river for the night.

Marvin and Chelsea go off alone. He disappears, leading the others to search in the dark woods. Someone attacks Steve and throws his body into a ravine, where many others lie from the past 20 years. Jamie and Chelsea decide to go to an old house they saw while floating on the river in hopes they might have a phone. Meanwhile, Sam appears to befriend Mark and Carly, but he kills Mark in front of Carly and knocks her out so he can drag her back to the house.

At the house, the girls encounter Frank, a slow-witted young man who works at the canoe rental and Sam’s brother. He sends them to the den for a phone, but locks them inside. Sam arrives with Carly and makes her bathe. After dinner, which includes their mama, covered in a wheelchair, Sam selects Chelsea to die and drags her off to dispose of her.

During the night, Jamie puts up a fight against Sam. She escapes and drags Carly with her. The girls barely make it outside when Carly dies from a shotgun blast. Jamie fights against Sam and just as she is losing, Frank kills his brother for being bad, then takes his own life. That leaves their mama, a stroke victim, all alone in the old house.
