A teen who was taken away from her birth mom as a baby develops a relationship with the woman behind her adoptive parents’ backs, placing the entire family in jeopardy. 

Natalie is a teen who had a baby too young. When the baby’s father calls her to give him a ride, Natalie is forced to take her sleeping toddler with her. Cliff and his friend Jimmy have Natalie drive them to a gas station they plan to rob. Things go terribly wrong inside, leaving three people dead. As police chase after Natalie’s car, she panics and wrecks. The police arrest all three teens and baby Kaylie is taken into custody.

Audrey Baxter is a social worker called to the office in the middle of the night to take in Kaylie until a foster home can be arranged. Already raising a young daughter herself, Audrey swears to her husband Ryan that looking after Kaylie is only temporary, but he knows better. They foster the little girl and eventually adopt her.

15 years later, Kaylie and her slightly older sister Sasha are typical teens, dressing too nicely for school and bickering over boys. Neither are aware that Natalie watches them from a distance. Recently let out of prison, she struggles to put her life back together but has managed to locate her daughter. Natalie goes to Audrey’s office, hoping to get permission to meet Kaylie but Audrey refuses and throws her out.

After hearing her parents discussing her birth mom, Kaylie insists she wants to meet Natalie. Her parents refuse. Sasha convinces her sister to play it cool and see what happens. After making up with Audrey, Kaylie receives her parents’ permission to meet Natalie at the house. Once she is given access to Kaylie, Natalie can’t let go. When Audrey and Ryan make her leave with no hope of seeing Kaylie again, Natalie’s world starts to crumble once again.

Kaylie sneaks off to see Natalie at her clothing shop job, just in time to watch her being fired. Natalie spends the day with her daughter, which forces Kaylie to lie to her other mom. When Audrey uncovers Kaylie lied, the teen blames it on sneaking out to meet a boy and finds herself grounded. Meanwhile, Natalie kills the woman who fired her.

Unhappy with her home life now, Kaylie bonds more with Natalie. She even skips school to help her pack when Natalie runs out of rent money. She has reconnected with Cliff, who escaped from prison and is staying at a friend’s house. When Natalie tries to move in with them and Cliff turns her away, she kills both. Left with no place else to go, Natalie convinces Kaylie to let her stay hidden in her basement until she finds a new job.

Sasha encounters Natalie one night and is knocked out by her, then held captive in the basement. Kaylie finds her but when she goes to help, Natalie knocks her out and holds her captive at the shack where Kaylie was conceived. Audrey uses a location app to track Kaylie’s location and charges in to rescue her. Natalie stabs her, ready to deliver a fatal blow. Kaylie gets free and fights against her birth mom, killing her to protect her real mom.
