Don't Let the Bedbugs Bite

Logline

A small town exterminator must pull out all the stops when a new, deadly strain of bedbug terrorizes the area.

 Synopsis

Ron Kessler is a meek exterminator in a small town but struggles to take care of his pregnant wife on little business. Vince, the owner of the only competition Critter Ridders, is a far better marketer and picks up more than the lion’s share of business with the limited customer base that the town offers.

When Ron finds a secret formula for an insecticide that kills all insects, created by his dad before he died, he gives it a try with a customer and it works perfectly. As Vince is called out on a lot of re-sprays, Ron is able to steal a good portion of his business. Determined to uncover Ron’s secret, Vince assigns has sultry secretary Ann to applying for a receptionist job at Kessler Extermination.

Once Ann gains Ron’s trust, she lets Vince into the office and he investigates Ron’s lab. There, he uncovers the new formula and sabotages the batches Ron has made up by adding another chemical. He takes the written formula with him so Ron can’t make more.

When Ron uses the spray on bedbugs at a job site, they appear to die but he doesn’t see the females come back to life and sprout wings. They become a larger, nastier bedbug that looks for human hosts to implant their larvae. Only one male survives and he becomes a larger threat.

Ron’s business starts to suffer when the spray no longer works. As the due date for his son grows closer, he fears the business will go under after he went in debt for a new truck. Things get out of hand when a friend is killed by the new strain of bedbug. Vince unknowingly lets one into his house. She lays eggs inside him and hundreds burst out within hours, killing Vince via a terribly painful death.

The bugs spread throughout the town before citizens are even aware. Ann returns Ron’s formula to him out of guilt. At a baby shower thrown for Sarah by her mom Martha, the deadly strain invades their party and traps them inside the house. The guests scatter, Sarah racing into the downstairs bathroom.

Ron gets a desperate call from Sarah that she is trapped at her mom’s house with the bugs. Ron takes Jennifer with him to the scene, both putting on full protective suits and arming themselves with new batches of the spray. Like true gunslingers, they charge inside and take out every bug they can find. It’s too late for most of the inhabitants, but they find Martha safe inside a closet and Sarah using a straw to breathe inside a tub full of water. She is also in labor and forces Ron to deliver their new baby.

Little do they know that a mutant bedbug has survived...
