After her last child leaves the nest, a devout mother dons a superhero costume in an attempt to convince people in her failing city to become better parents. When one of her victims decides to turn the tables on her, she is forced to become a true hero in order to save her son's life.

Amy is a devout mom who is forced into empty nest syndrome when her youngest child leaves for college. Having been nothing but a mom to two children most of her adult life, Amy sinks into depression over the quiet house. Her next door neighbor Jim helps to keep her entertained, always pretending to be a super hero following a head injury, but it’s nowhere near enough to give Amy purpose. 

On her return home from a store, she is robbed by a teen who makes her fear for her life. Now Amy is afraid to leave her home in fear something similar will happen again. Her husband Mark realizes he has to do something to help her and talks his wife into taking a class in self-defense at the police station where he works as a detective. Amy is reluctant and scared but gives it a try.

To her surprise, and that of her classmates as well as her instructor, Amy has a lot of pent up rage that manifests itself in class. She becomes the star student, even causing her instructor to fear her. Now full of confidence that she can defend herself, Amy goes back out into the world. After shopping with her sister Nicole, a teen tries to rob both. Amy knocks him out with relative ease. The incident makes her realize that her city is falling into despair because of teens getting out of hand, and the blame goes solely on the parents.

There must be something she can do to help. After talking with Jim, she comes up with the idea to become a super hero called Super Mom. In costume and mask to hide her identity and appear more authentic, she chooses people who are neglecting their troubled kids and attempts to teach them how to become good parents. When they refuse, she roughs them up as necessary so they will comply in fear.

Her first target, Sam, is completely humiliated when he is left tied up in his underwear on the steps of a news station with a note from Super Mom, and the footage is shown all over town. Just as Super Mom becomes a sensation, Sam kidnaps Amy’s son in order to draw her to a remote warehouse. Also dressed in costume, Sam battles Amy in a brutal showdown that she nearly loses, but the thought of losing her son gives her the strength she needs to take Sam down, along with some assistance from Jim. Amy retires from the job, but not until after she has changed her city for the better.
