The Road to Atlantis

Logline

When an ex-marine stumbles across one of three clues leading to the legendary city of Atlantis, he is forced to partner with a stuffy Peace Corps superior in order to keep an oil tycoon from discovering a secret energy source that could help him rule the world.

Synopsis

Brody Nash, ex-marine, belongs to the Peace Corps, where he is stationed in Africa to help a poor farming village survive. There, he oversees numerous teen volunteers. The girls are entranced by his Indiana Jones type looks. Annie, from Peace Corps Headquarters, arrives to speak with Brody about some paperwork he needs to fill out. Immediately, the two clash. When they fall through the ground into an old well, Brody investigates. After surviving a booby-trap, Brody locates one of three markers that are said to lead to the lost city of Atlantis.

He isn’t the only one interested in the lost city. An old nemesis, Cortez, has his sights on the jackpot of archeology, where an energy source is rumored to be. His men destroy the entire village in order to get the artifact from Brody. Being the adventurer he is, Brody manages to get Annie out of danger. The artifact shows them they should head to Greece. There, they uncover an underground tunnel and barely escape numerous dangers in order to find the second marker.

As the couple grows closer to finding Atlantis, Cortez becomes more desperate. Annie discovers through Cortez that Brody didn’t join the Peace Corps to help people. He only joined because it would give him easier access to locations of the three makers to Atlantis, scattered around the world. After having developed a fondness for Brody, the revelation turns Annie against him. She leaves Brody in Greece. Knowing Cortez won’t give up, Brody is greatly worried about Annie’s safety under the dangerous circumstances.

In South America, where the first two markers show the third one to be, Annie leads a few native escorts in search of the final artifact. Cortez comes after them, and Brody arrives just in time to save her. They agree to work together for their own safety and follow the trail to an area of caves that is hard to reach. Inside, they face danger in the quest to locate the final marker. Annie makes it outside first as lava chases them. When Brody exits, he is knocked out by Cortez’s men.

Brody awakens on a boat in the area where Atlantis is believed to be. A worried Annie is by his side. One of the markers is similar to a Rubik’s Cube, where a map on the cube has to be solved before anything happens. Cortez fails to solve the puzzle. He threatens to kill Annie if Brody doesn’t do it. The moment the puzzle is solved, a rumble occurs in the ocean as the mighty city rises around them.

On the island, Cortez forces Brody to lead the group in case there are traps. There are many. They come across a gem that is capable of creating great energy, one of thousands. Cortez becomes greedy and causes the island to gradually sink. Brody fights to get Annie off the island before it’s completely underwater with Cortez in pursuit. Despite his fear of water, Brody does manage to escape with Annie and he has one of the crystals with him. Selling it will provide the African village with what they need, as well as many other villages.
