The Law of One: Revolution

Logline

In a future world where the poor are only permitted to have one child per couple, a teen girl and her younger brother are forced to flee their village in order to seek out the rebels who plan to take down the government.

Synopsis

Following nuclear destruction in the United States, the government lumps survivors into "zones" where they can be watched and controlled. Politicians and elitists live well in the capital city while poor villagers struggle just to survive. "The Law of One" is passed, making it illegal for any couple to have more than one child in order to curb the population and protect limited resources.

17-year-old Nadira Beswick has an average life in the desolate world. She attends school, has a boyfriend, and helps out at home. Only there is a rebellious nature to her. She reads a secret history book her father Randall gives her to learn the truths that have been forbidden. She also steps out of the zone through a faulty laser fence around her zone to find some tranquility while gathering pickerelweed, a delicacy that she can trade for other valuables.

The family hides an unlawful secret: Nadira has a slightly younger brother who has been raised in the cellar his entire life. Alex has never seen the outside. His art is surreal because he hasn’t seen any of the animals or nature for himself. He persuades his sister to let him see the outside just once. Nadira sneaks him out during the night, to the pond where she hangs out on the other side of the fence. Alex is mesmerized by the air on his skin and the grass beneath his feet. He never wants to go back, but realizes he has no choice.

A rival for Nadir’s hand, Salten Finch, a councilman’s son, spots them and reports the ongoings to his father. When Nadira ushers Alex back to their house as dawn arrives, they find soldiers inside, terrorizing their parents as they search for both children. They are taken away and executed before the residents. Nadira and Alex are forced to watch. They go on the run as a massive search begins for them.

Eyana is the president of the country and can’t let the siblings evade her or she will lose respect from other zones. Her henchman daughter Sidra handles the search. Nadira and Alex come across a small band of rebels, led by Aden, an arrogant young man who gets on Nadia’s last nerve. He takes Alex and her to a hidden sanctuary for the rebels, and teaches them how to fight. When Evan has innocent people executed to punish Nadira, the rebels make their move.

In a quest to shut down power to Giam, the capitol city, it will also be necessary to shut off all power throughout the country. Nadira becomes the bait to lure Evan and Sierra to a remote zone. While they confront her, the rebels set explosives to destroy the entire group while a second group attacks the power grid in Giam, and a rebel sets up a live feed at the hidden nursery, where elites hide their extra children.

Upon finding out that the capitol has been lying to its citizens, villagers fight back with a fury and end the tyranny forced upon them, largely due to Nadia’s importance and strength.
