Suicide Hotline

Logline

An employee at a suicide hotline becomes the target of a maniac out to get revenge for the deaths of his family members.

Synopsis

Haley Patterson works the night shift at a suicide hotline. Following the suicide of a co-worker, Haley receives a call from James, a man who has lost his will to live. His difficult nature draws Haley in. After convincing him to wait until morning before taking any action, Haley shows up at his door. James grows uneasy with her intrusion but the more they interact, the more he realizes there may be hope for his life.

Detective Marla Sanchez doesn’t believe the death of the hotline employee was a suicide. It appears her boyfriend made it look like suicide but then took his own life. She questions Haley, who fails to provide any useful information.

One night, Haley forgets to bring coffee to work with her and calls James to deliver her some. He lies about not having a working coffeemaker in order to get access to her house. There, he places a bug in the living room so he can listen to her conversations. When he takes the coffee to Haley, James initiates a passionate session on top of her desk. The landline falls to the floor and prevents any calls from coming through, completely staged by James.

The hotline’s owner pays Haley a visit the next day to fire her. A young woman, involved with James, tried to call for over an hour the previous night and couldn’t get through so she made an attempt on her life. Now without a job, just like James, Haley finds herself questioning what she knows. Her only bright spot is that James seems to really care for her, even giving her a multi-diamond ring on her birthday.

Accepting the ring proves to be a mistake for Haley, as James now becomes the clingy one. When Haley misplaces her new ring, James bruises her arm. Haley’s former co-worker Jerry takes Haley to lunch. Little do they know that James is following Haley. He pops up at their lunch to scope out his adversary for Haley’s affections.

Late that night, James breaks into the office and pushes Jerry out the three-story window to his death. While investigating, Marla spots James at the scene and starts to investigate him. Haley is reluctant to say much about him out of fear. As James now knows the detective is on his trail, he drugs her inside her house and stages her suicide over the possibility of losing custody of her little girl to her ex.

Haley reconnects with her sister Paula for guidance. Paula convinces Haley to break up with James. As Paula leaves Haley’s house, James kidnaps her, then goes after Haley. James’s sister committed suicide a year earlier when Haley failed to help her and he wants revenge. His plans to stage Haley’s suicide and Paula’s death crumble when the sisters fight back with a fury.

Haley opens her own mental health office with Paula offering to be her receptionist, and finds great success.
