Logline

Ready to tie the knot with the woman he loves, a man must overcome a huge hurdle in his way of succeeding - getting the blessings of his fiancee's four dads who greatly dislike him.

Synopsis

Martin has found the woman of his dreams in Katrina. She couldn't be more perfect for him. After she accepts his proposal, Katrina convinces Martin to drive home with her to meet her parents.

Upon arrival at their large farmhouse in the country, Martin finds something very troublesome taking place in their community, as well as Katrina's own household. Most girls have one dad a guy needs to win over. Katrina has four. Polygamy is legal in their town due to a loophole. Katrina refrained from telling Martin in fear he would break up with her.

Martin is stunned by what he sees, but he loves Katrina and tries to make the best of it. While two of Katrina’s dads, Jimmy and Frank, like Martin from the start, the remaining two, Dan and Steve, loathe him. To complicate things, Martin’s wacky friend Barry pops in to see the craziness for himself, and he is followed by a crazed stalker, Agnes. The house quickly becomes over crowded.

After a few mishaps on Martin’s part, Katrina convinces him to tackle one dad at a time. Martin starts with Frank, who asks him to rub suntan lotion on his back. Grossed out by the mere thought, Martin closes his eyes and pictures rubbing lotion on Katrina’s back. That leads to some sensual touching and causes Frank to flee.

Martin pretends to love books to impress Steve, saying there’s a book signing for one of Steve’s favorite authors at the bookstore in town. He even adds that he has met the author through his publishing firm, which is a lie. When they go to the signing, chaos erupts when Barry follows and causes Martin to lose his spot in line. After Martin rejoins Steve, three burly men now at the end start a fight over Martin’s line cutting. All five men are expelled from the store, leaving Steve angry with Martin.

Jimmy takes Martin golfing. Martin has no idea what he is doing, leading to an all day excursion just to play 18 holes. Martin tries to appease Dan last by mowing the yard, only he runs over their garden and breaks the lawnmower. That is the last straw for Martin. He packs his bag and starts to take off, against Katrina’s pleas. Beth has sudden pancreatitis and is whisked off to the hospital. Watching how all four of her husbands dote on her makes Martin realize that what they have works for them. The husbands also decide they have been too hard on Martin and give the couple their blessings.

At the wedding, Martin tells his mom about Beth and her husbands. Instead of being stunned, she admires it, to Martin’s surprise. He worries about his grandmother when she finds out at the ceremony. While she does interrupt and cause Martin to speak out against her, she points out that his fly is open. That’s all she wanted to say. Martin marries the girl of his dreams and accepts her new family structure.
