Losing Harry

Logline

A lost hamster must rely on some wacky woodland creatures to help him find his way home to his distraught owner while avoiding a sneaky snake determined to invite him to lunch.

Synopsis

Harry is a golden hamster happy with his life of running his wheel and eating to his heart's content. He adores his young owner, Billy, who occasionally takes his cage outside so he can get air and enjoy the warmth on his fur. When Billy’s mom Sarah calls him inside to say hi to his grandma on the phone, Billy thinks it will be okay to leave Harry’s cage just for a minute. While Billy is inside briefly, Frank Fox discovers Harry’s smell and attacks the cage. It comes apart at impact with the ground. Needing to hide, Harry flees into the woods. The maneuver saves him, but Oswald Owl swoops him up and flies him further away from home. Harry escapes but finds himself terribly lost.

He meets Robbie Raccoon, who is hiding from his somewhat friend Sally Skunk. Robbie has asked her to keep him from stealing like raccoons are known for and she takes the job too seriously. He offers to help Harry find his home, but Harry falls into a hole in the ground, where he encounters Sid Snake. Sid is very intrigued with this unusual creature and decides it is edible. Harry flees with comical results.

After coming across a group of salmon trying to spawn, he meets Helen Hummingbird. Helen wants to be Harry’s new friend but must dart off often to feed. Despite her small size, she promises to help Harry find the house where she visits a feeder often, believing that must be Billy’s home. They begin their journey when Helen has to fly off with Harry on her back in order to elude a hungry hawk.

Meanwhile, Billy is heartbroken over the loss of his beloved hamster. He sneaks off at night to search the woods, but Sarah catches him in time. She warns it’s too dangerous to wander in the woods alone. Still, Billy is determined and manages to sneak off after his mom buys him a new hamster. He only wants Harry. Sarah tries to find her son, yet fails. She is forced to bring the police in, who start a search for the missing boy. Despite being told to wait at home, Sarah continues her own search.

Near a vegetable garden tended to by Ricky Rabbit, Billy falls into an old well and hurts his ankle. His pleas for help go unanswered. Later, Helen takes Harry to the garden so he can eat and gain back his strength. They come across Robbie and Sally on their way. At the garden, they hear Billy crying and find him in the well. Harry’s friends lower him on a vine to the boy, who is thrilled to see his lost pet.

Harry, Sally, and Helen go for help. They encounter Sarah and try to let her know about Billy, only she doesn’t understand them. Robbie steals her cap and flees with it, back to the garden. There, she finds Billy and locates the police for assistance in getting him out. As things look good for Harry, Sid appears out of nowhere and snatches the hamster. To the amazement of the humans, Harry’s animal friends band together to fight Sid and take Harry back. His new pals agree they will visit him often at his house. Back home, Harry meets Hannah Hamster, his replacement, and now truly has it all.
