Sinister Senior

Logline

A recent widow must fight to save her daughter and herself when she makes the mistake of marrying a conman out to rob her blind.

Synopsis

Betty and Scott share a love that extends to their 50th anniversary. During the night following the big celebration, Scott dies in his sleep, leaving his wife to find him in the morning. Lost without him, she doesn't know how she will continue. The love of her grown children, Jenny and Randy, is the only thing that offers the promise of living out the rest of her life without dire loneliness.

Two years later, Betty decides taking care of a house by herself is too much and sells her home. Then she buys a condo at Senior Haven, a community for seniors. She is there a short time when she meets dashing Frank Dennis, a sly senior visiting a friend. He oozes charm and attracts Betty. After a whirlwind romance, the two break it to Betty's children that they got married. Jenny has a difficult time accepting that her mom not only sold her house without telling anyone, but also married a man she didn't know all too well. Betty convinces her daughter to trust her. She knows what she is doing.

Only she really doesn't. Frank starts out by lying about his granddaughter totaling her car and needing a new one to get to school. His money is tied up in 401k and bonds so he can't help her. Being such a kind heart, Betty offers to loan him the money. Frank uses his ingenuity to convince Betty they should combine their bank accounts, only he doesn't have access to his money right now so his name goes on Betty's account.

Over time, Frank withdraws money without telling Betty. He also steals one of her expensive bracelets to give to his girlfriend, Cynthia. When the building's manager recognizes Frank as a different alias, he blows it off as her mistake but can't allow her to live in case she talks to Betty. That night, he enters Karen's condo with a key he stole from her office and suffocates her. He lays her body in bed and positions her so it will look like she passed in her sleep.

Cynthia is next to agitate Frank when she wants more from their relationship that he is willing to give. To make sure she doesn't ruin things with Betty, Frank takes care of the "problem."

Things fall apart for Betty. Frank is rarely home and he ends up losing her new puppy, which turns up at a local vet's with antifreeze poisoning. She's had enough and leaves during the night. Suspicious of what Frank is really up to, Jenny swipes Betty's keys and goes to her condo to investigate. Frank catches her in the act and knocks her out, taking her to a cabin owned by an old girlfriend.

Betty does some detective work to locate where they may have gone. It's up to her to save Jenny before Frank completes his devious plan to steal all her money and leave no loose ends behind.
