Logline

A woman soon expecting her estranged husband's baby finds true love for the holidays when she returns home to her family and reconnects with an old flame.

 Synopsis

Emily Parker finds herself in a bad marriage to her inattentive husband Roger. To make matters worse, she accidentally becomes pregnant. Not ready to be a father, Roger runs out on Emily, leaving her to deal with the pregnancy alone.

Months later, Emily goes on maternity leave and returns home to the small town where she grew up, and to her family. Her parents, Susan and Charlie, have no idea she is pregnant until she arrives for the holiday, nearly 8 months along. She announces plans to stay until after she gives birth, pleasing her 12-year-old sister Cassie.

While reacquainting herself with the town, Emily runs into her high school boyfriend Alan Greene. While he is stunned to see her with child, Alan still feels an attraction to her, especially when he learns that Emily has separated from her husband. The two hit it off, until Alan is struck by a car while pushing Emily out of the way.

Feeling guilty for his broken arm, Emily begins to hang out at Alan's house to help him. Love blooms. Emily starts to realize that Alan is everything that Roger wasn't. Alan doesn't even mind that she will soon have another man's baby. The only one who does mind is Alan's pretentious mom, Valerie. She will do anything to protect her son and makes sure Emily knows just how she feels.

A riff occurs between Alan and Valerie, but Emily is more important to him. Shortly before Christmas, the couple has a great time at the town festival until Roger shows up and gets into a fight with Alan. Even worse, Valerie makes sure Emily overhears her bashing her son's new girlfriend to a friend.

Realizing Valerie is right that she isn't good for Alan, Emily decides to return to the city by bus when her car breaks down on Christmas Eve Day. Alan learns that Valerie has paid Roger to cause trouble in his relationship with Emily and takes off for the city. There, he convinces Emily to talk to him about their situation. They decide to do what they want and forget what others think.

They fix a Christmas Eve dinner but something troubles Emily. Her family celebrates Christmas morning and this would have been the last one with her them before her son is born. Alan decides he won't let the woman he loves miss out on something so important to her. They take off late in the evening for the few hour drive back to town.

Alan wrecks the car in a rural area and is left unconscious while Emily goes into labor. When he wakes, his only concern is for her. While a beautiful snow falls, Emily gives birth just past midnight to give her son a Christmas birthday. A sheriff comes across the couple shortly after and gets Emily to the hospital, where she spends Christmas with her family after all.
