The Seeker

Logline

A detective must stop a serial killer who targets victims with something unusual in common – they're cyborgs.

Synopsis

A killer is on the loose. First, a prostitute is carved up in an unusual way. Then a well-to-do businessman, murdered in a similar fashion. Detective Tony Reynolds works the case. After losing his wife and pre-teen daughter, Tony doesn’t care about anything much. His house is a mess. So is his appearance. He barely holds onto his job. Will, a fellow detective and friend, tries to help Tony through his misery, but it seems to be a losing battle.

The two deaths have Tony puzzled. When the coroner prepares to do the prostitute’s autopsy, two mysterious men in black use authority to take the body and stop the investigation. The businessman doesn’t even make it close to an autopsy before Tony’s captain informs him to back off of the case. It’s being handled by another bureau.

12-year-old Allison has been adopted recently. She hates her home due to bitterness over her situation. After she sneaks out to meet her friend for a party, the killer breaks into her home looking for her. The parents come across the intruder and die by his hands. Tony is one of the first to meet Allison when the police start an investigation. They share a mutual fondness right away, as Allison reminds Tony of his deceased daughter, and Tony feels like the father figure Allison has never had. Tony turns Allison over to Rhonda from CPS. She takes Allison home with her for the night, unaware that the killer has trailed Allison. The girl sneaks out of the house right before the killer comes after her. Rhonda interferes and is thrown out a window.

Now Tony realizes the killer is after Allison. At his house, the men in black, along with their boss, Reece, make an appearance. Reece informs Tony that he has created cyborgs, but there was an issue with the first of two groups. He located all but one, who continues to elude him. The prostitute and businessman were part of the three he created in the second group. It’s logical to assume that the killer is the missing 1st generation cyborg with programming issues. Allison is the 3rd cyborg and in grave danger.

Reece leaves his two men at Tony’s house to look after them. The killer injures both and goes after Allison. Tony gets her out through the bedroom window and flees in his car. Needing a safe place for her, Tony takes her to his grandmother’s cabin that he used to visit often until tragedy struck his family.

Will is the missing cyborg. He traces Allison to the cabin, where he knocks out Tony and chases the girl into the woods. Inside an old factory, Will prepares to operate on Allison, looking for a soul he believes cyborgs must have. Tony battles him and saves Allison. Reece insists on taking Allison back to his lab since she is a valuable piece of equipment. With the help of his sister, Tony manages to convince Reece to leave Allison in his custody, where she can live the life she deserves and Tony can start a new one.
