When guests are stranded in a remote hotel during a windstorm, they find themselves at the mercy of an unknown killer determined to murder every last soul before dawn.

A killer strikes in a remote area near a famous hotel. A local man, Harold Miller, who has been under psychiatric care his entire life, is arrested soon after two socialites staying at Fairview Manor are murdered. Things become peaceful for the next several months.

Cassie Harding works the desk at Fairview. Her boss, Charles Danton, keeps a tidy ship. It’s the slow season for guests with a severe cold front that produces intense wind. Cassie is good friends with Tracy from the kitchen, along with her handyman boyfriend Johnny and Tracy’s beau, Dirk. A Latino maid, Lena, completes the limited winter staff.

A group of friends passing through finds theirselves running out of gas and stop at Fairview Manor for the night. Sam and Rachael are the wealthy, snobby types. Their companions, Billy and Alice, are more on the geekish side. Earlier that day, Harold escapes the mental institution.

Late that night, Tracy goes to the kitchen for a beer. Someone wearing a coat brutally kills her. Next, Rachael takes the elevator down to the lobby but never arrives. The killer decapitates her inside.

After Dirk plays his guitar for the staff and guests, everyone heads to bed. In his office, Danton is killed. Next, the intruder murders Sam with a hatchet. Lena is assaulted inside an empty room.

Harold shows up at the locked entry doors, wearing the killer’s bloodied coat. Johnny grabs a gun from his room and charges off to shoot him. Cassie stops him from shooting through the glass. Billy appears to die in front of Alice. The survivors decide to flee.

When Cassie and Johnny go outside to get her car, they discover tires on all cars have been deflated. Johnny uses spares from different vehicles to get her car going. The killer attacks and causes the car to wreck. While Cassie races back to the lobby, the killer whacks Johnny with a tire iron over and over.

Harold has gotten inside. He convinces Cassie that he is not the killer. He found the discarded coat outside and was freezing. The intruder also comes and goes as he pleases. He kills both Alice and Dirk. After being knocked out during a struggle, Cassie awakens to find that Billy is the killer. His older sister Kathy was one of the early murder victims and he wanted to kill her himself. That was taken from him, and he knows someone at the hotel covered the victims staying there at the time they disappeared. He wants revenge. Cassie goes on offense and kills Billy.

At a new hotel, Cassie targets wealthy guests for their money to feed her shopping addiction. It was her all along, with the help of her cousin who was also Harold’s therapist. They set him up to take the heat so they could steal from their guests.
